Drive with caution — fix soon.
This code is set when the MAF sensor signal is lower than the car's computer expects. That low reading tells the engine very little air is coming in, so it adds less fuel and the engine can run lean. The cause is often a wiring fault, a leak, or a sensor that isn't reading correctly.
$90 – $400
Varies by vehicle and root cause.
Usually for short distances, but the engine may stall or feel gutless. Have it checked promptly, especially if it stalls at stops, since that can be unsafe in traffic.
Typically $90 to $400. A wiring repair or sensor cleaning is on the lower end, while a new MAF sensor and labor push it higher.
It's a moderate concern. It rarely leaves you stranded, but running lean over time isn't good for the engine, so it shouldn't be ignored.
Common reasons are a dirty or failing sensor, broken wiring, or a loose connector. A leak in the intake after the sensor can also make the signal read low.
